The pump was under an extended Ford recall. so no cost to us. Other than normal wear and maintenance items I never had to work on the car. A 2010 would only be different in the sheetmetal, and should be a good car, but definitely get a good mechanic evaluation before buying it.
A lot of people here are answering assuming you are in the US, where the fiesta was only available as a 2011+ model. In Europe, the sixth generation was available from 2009+, so it will have the same problematic DCT transmission. The only exception is the 1.4 liter diesel, which was sold with a 4 speed auto. I’m not sure if it’s any better
The Fiesta is the better hot hatch, but the Focus is the better car. It rides much better, doesn’t use too much more gas in instrumented testing, and holds a good amount more shit. The rear seat comfort is much improved. I personally definitely preferred the FiST, but you with your priorities may prefer the FoST.
If seriously considering any used car, be sure to get a pre-purchase inspection before making any decisions. You've done good by avoiding the automatic, but the next step is to make sure the car is as they say it is and get it inspected. If it checks out, then that's a pretty good deal. But it does seem suspiciously low to me.
The normal 500 is a good car. It isn't trash in any way. It's a European city car transplanted in America. Yes it's slow, yes it's small, but it's a very very good city car. The Abarth is even better. I don't live in the city though. I live where roads are long and occasionally rutty.
On average they got 8-14mpg in city traffic. Since it’s cost the company so much money in down time and rental cars, we’ve since stopped using all Ford products. I have never heard anything good about the Ford Escape. Friends who had them were plagued with constant issues.
If so, there's a reason it's selling so cheap. The 2014 year model is arguably the worst one for the autos. With the car market the way it is, if you HAVE to have a vehicle, I'd consider buying it. Even if it only lasts you a few years, $4,000 for a car in today's market is pretty much a steal. Be sure to research how to drive these cars.
Be warned that if you have to pass you need to downshift to get above 2500 RPM before laying on the boost heavily or it can cause engine issues with the ecoboost. It seems way less common with the 1.6l Fiesta, but is a huge issue with the 2.0 in the Focus ST. The bigger issue is wind and road noise on the freeway.
