There is a vent hose for the crank case that runs to the air box. When the cranks case has too much pressure it sends oil out of the vent tube and into the air box. The gear rode on top of the teeth and bent the shaft (I haven't seen or heard of that anywhere else!). Total replacement. I didn't have the time or patience and paid the shop to have it repaired. $1600. I sold it and bought an '11. The guy who bought it got an awesome machine and I got an even awesomer machine!
